Suzanne Chang, LAC

I’m Suzanne and I have a passion for helping individuals through the challenges of new parenthood with empathy and warmth. As a Licensed Associate Counselor in New Jersey, I offer new parents, or those trying to grow their family, the space to feel and express their emotions and receive caring counseling in a kind, respectful, and friendly atmosphere.

Starting a family comes with many challenges, whether that be the journey to conceive or the process of welcoming home a newborn. You may have dreamed of this moment for what seems like your entire life, only to feel depressed and exhausted when your baby arrives. Or your journey to conceive may be difficult and cause you to question who you are and how to manage the ups and downs of infertility.

In our society, we often feel the pressure to stay strong and happy as we juggle the mental load of parenting or the uncertainty of what comes next. This can cause confusion and self-doubt, as well as stress in relationships with your partner or family. It can feel like a lonely journey, but you are not alone. I believe that therapy is a brave way toward healing and better understanding oneself. I strive to work with an individual’s strengths and use them to guide you on this new journey.

After becoming a mother myself, I left my previous career in journalism and digital media to focus on parenthood. I understand the difficulties of transitioning into this new role, and I developed a deep desire to help others navigate one of life’s most complex chapters. My own motherhood experience influenced my decision to make a career change with the intention of supporting the perinatal community.

As a former journalist, my professional background helps me connect the dots of your life story. We are all shaped by our life experiences, and learning what has brought you to where you are today and using those experiences to better understand your here and now can give you the perspective you need to grow. I take a person-centered approach wherein I honor your cultural background and upbringing, so we can understand how your values shape your identity and consider that when applying therapeutic strategies. I completed my Masters' of Professional Counseling at Seton Hall University and have advanced clinical training in perinatal mental health, including loss and grief, through the Seleni Institute. I look forward to working with you.
