Erica Manger, LAC
I’m Erica and my passion is to support individuals and couples who are facing challenges along the road to building a family.
Social media often paints a beautiful picture of pregnancy and parenthood, making it seem as if conceiving, pregnancy and the postpartum period are easy. We are taught that this is how it is supposed to be. Caring for children just “comes naturally.” And so anything you experience that is less than this, often leads you to doubt yourself and believe there must be something wrong with you. If you find yourself wondering why your experiences are so different, you are not alone. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with you.
For many of us, we take for granted that when we want to start a family, we will be able to do so. Unfortunately reality can sometimes look very different from the plans we had for our future. You might be seeing pregnancy or birth announcements regularly and it may seem at any given moment that everyone you know is having babies. You never expected to have fertility issues or experience the devastating pain of pregnancy loss. You may feel intense grief or anxiety every time you see a newborn or ultrasound picture. You may feel resentful that life went on while the precious life you lost couldn’t.
There is so much no one tells you about starting a family - the difficulty you may face in conceiving, how exhausting it is with a newborn, how completely upside down your world is going to turn. . . or how disconnected you may feel from your partner. You once thought of each other as best friends and now you feel more like roommates. You question if you will ever find your way back to “feeling like us” again. I’m here to offer support and acceptance, individually or with you and your partner. In couples counseling, we will work together on helping you to feel more emotionally or intimately connected again.
I am a Licensed Associate Counselor and have a Master of Counseling from Felician University.
